Spirit Tracks Wins!
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks won an award. And its not even out yet. It won IGN’s Best of E3: Nintendo DS: Best Adventure Game. The runner ups were some crime game called Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, (try saying that 5 times fast), and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2. Clearly, Spirit Tracks didn’t have much competition. Here is what IGN said about Spirit Tracks:
“From the opening hours of the show to the dwindling minutes on Thursday night, Nintendo’s latest portable Zelda adventure commanded a vast crowd that lined up around the Big N’s booth for a chance to play Link’s latest quest. They’re right to be excited, as you should be — with the solid foundation of The Phantom Hourglass engine, an all-new rail-riding train system put in place and more new dungeons and inventive touch-controlled items to experience, Spirit Tracks is in a great position to become one of the biggest hits of this holiday season on DS. It was definitely the adventure hit of E3.”
So, I guess you can expect the Spirit Tracks gameplay to be like Phantom Hourglass, with a twist.

Zelda Universe: Immortal Childhood
| Zelda fans, get ready for an article that has to be one of the most inspiring ever written by one fan alone. Writer Hylian Dan from Zelda Universe covers many aspects of the Zelda games that link their stories and their messages together, focusing on the ones that are between Link’s Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and The Wind Waker. The huge article pays close attention to themes of maturity and morality, and takes a fine look at how the two intervene together as a child grows up. |
To me, this article seemed to make a whole lot of sense. Time seems like a nasty thing to try to mess with, and it’s best to learn to move on with the flow of things. I highly recommend that you all give this a full read, if not now then bookmark it for later but this is a one of a kind. If it doesn’t change your perspective on the Zelda games, it will change your perspective on life.

Shiggy Says: MotionPlus is the Goal
|
Nintendo recently revealed lots of new surprises during their E3 2009 Keynote last week. Despite there being hardly any mention of Zelda during the conference, Nintendo actually released another Spirit Tracks trailer and screenshots. |
The new information about Spirit Tracks was seemingly almost forgotten by many Zelda fans, as they flocked to the news about new concept artwork for the next Wii Zelda game. Nintendo has said very little about the artwork or the game itself, but they briefly said at their roundtable discussion that they might decide to include Wii MotionPlus into the gameplay, depending on how well the peripheral succeeds in its earlier stages. More recently, Miyamoto told Wired that it is Nintendo’s desire to make the next Wii Zelda strictly MotionPlus controlled.
I think MotionPlus would be a big step up for Zelda, especially since the Wii is pretty much built for swordplay.. If the rumors about the mysterious artwork figure having to do with the Master Sword are true, this could really get interesting. Possibly the first Zelda game to have 1:1 sword motion controls and it focuses on the Master Sword. I like it.
Wii MotionPlus is released this Friday… lets see what it can do!

The 100 Year Itch
A very nice article was posted in Zelda Universe about how Spirit Tracks, and future titles, are creeping its way into the future. It gives both sides of the arguement, like how it would help the Zelda series, or how it would crush the “Zelda feel”. It is very well written, very funny, and VERY long.
Here is a passage from the article:
“In the hundred years since Phantom Hourglass, it can be assumed land was finally found, peopled, agricultured, civilized and the beginnings of a technological culture have formed. In the real world, trains and horses lived side-by-side for a time before the internal combustion engine gave everyone wheels. I believe that this new Zelda takes place in a similar grace period. The beginning of an industrial revolution but just the beginning.
While Spirit Tracks still appears to hold to the fantasy roots of the series, perhaps it marks a turning point after all, there is only so much future left to go without getting into cars and planes and guns. How long before long all you have left are lasers and spaceships?”
